What ByteDance actually shipped

Seedance 2.0 now exposes a `4k` resolution flag alongside 1080p, 720p and 480p — and the 4K path is a native render, not a post-hoc upscale. Every frame is generated at 3840×2160 by the base model, with audio synthesised in the same pass. Start-frame and end-frame conditioning both work at 4K. On fal.ai the endpoint is `bytedance/seedance-2.0/image-to-video`; on Lumineer the flag is one click in the Quality selector.

Native 4K vs upscale — the difference is not subtle

For two years the standard workflow was: generate at 1080p, then run Topaz or Clarity to upscale. That path works, but it inherits every temporal artefact of the base model — jittery hair, warping edges, softness in fast motion — and multiplies them. A native 4K render generates detail from the same denoiser that owns temporal coherence, so pores, fabric weave, foliage and specular highlights stay stable across frames. In blind pairs, native 4K wins on every shot with fine texture (skin, wood, water, hair) and every shot with camera motion.

Cost and speed reality check
